Natural environment
What we are planning for our natural environment in the Annual Plan 2025/2026.
In the 2025/2026 financial year, we plan to:
- meet our obligations set out in the Regional Pest Management Plan 2020-2030
- increase funding and extend the Natural Environment Targeted Rate to deliver:
- a plan to help us manage pests like rats and stoats
- animal management activities
- pathogen control to help prevent diseases from spreading
- activities to help restore our environment
- continue to manage kauri dieback disease to protect our kauri forests
- deliver a marine biosecurity education and engagement programme including increased monitoring of new and existing marine pests like caulerpa seaweed
- open more community recycling centres to grow our resource recovery network.
We also plan to complete the roll-out of our regionwide kerbside rubbish collection service. We will introduce remaining areas to rates-funded rubbish collections including Franklin and Rodney, later this year.
