Major projects for 2025/2026
We plan to start and progress several major projects in the 2025/2026 financial year.
Projects in central Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf islands
Central City Library
We plan to fully refurbish the interior of the Central City Library building. We will renew:
- mechanical services and lighting
- furniture
- fixtures and equipment.
Leys Institute
We are working to strengthen and restore the Leys Institute buildings to protect them from earthquake damage. We will restore, modernise and upgrade the buildings including the library and the community centre. We aim to reopen the buildings by 2028.
City Centre Masterplan
We plan to deliver the goals of the City Centre Masterplan to create a vibrant, accessible and inclusive city centre that contributes significantly to the Auckland region.
This is an ongoing project.
Projects in north Auckland
Water and wastewater treatment plant
We plan to upgrade the water and wastewater treatment plant in Wellsford to improve waterway quality and meet the needs of the growing region.

Mahurangi community building
We plan a full renewal of the Mahurangi East Community Centre including:
- redesigning the library
- upgrading the toilets
- work to protect the building from earthquake damage.
Rosedale bus station
We plan to:
- start construction on a new bus station in Rosedale
- make improvements for pedestrians on Rosedale Road, including:
- a dual crossing for pedestrians and cyclists to connect the path between Rosedale Park and the local shops
- a new cycle-stopping area on either side of the new pedestrian crossing.
Te Kori Scott Park
We plan to progress work to develop a sustainable sports park at Te Kori Scott Point in Hobsonville.
West Auckland
Te Whau pathway
We plan to progress work on Te Whau Pathway, including designing and building the boardwalks, bridges and concrete paths between Roberts Field and State Highway 16, Northwestern motorway.
West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre
We plan to upgrade parts of the recreation halls and main pool and leisure pool areas at West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre in Henderson, including:
- heating and ventilation systems
- lighting
- changing rooms.
Te Hono / Avondale Community Centre
We plan to replace the existing Avondale Community Centre and develop a combined library and community centre hub.
East Auckland
Eastern Busway
We plan to make progress on the new Eastern Busway between Pakuranga to Botany, across Tī Rākau Drive to Botany including the Rā Hihi (flyover).
Waikaraka Park
We plan to combine the two current four-wheel class speedway venues in Auckland at Waikaraka Park in Onehunga to improve speedway assets and provide a better service.
Michaels Avenue Reserve
We plan to start stage two of the Michaels Avenue Reserve in Ellerslie upgrade by renewing the car parks and play space.
South Auckland
Nathan Homestead
We plan to refurbish the Nathan Homestead in Manurewa to:
- protect it from potential earthquake damage
- upgrade the heritage community facility and cafe.
Ōpaheke Sports Park
We plan to develop fresh water and wastewater systems at Ōpaheke Sports Park in Papakura using the full Bellfield Encumbrance Reserves Fund.
Neighbourhood parks in Franklin
We plan to develop neighbourhood parks in:
- Bremner Drive in Drury
- Glenbrook
- Patumahoe
- Clarks Beach
- Ngakaroa Reserve in Drury
- Ray Fausett Reserve in Pukekohe.
Level crossings
We plan to remove and improve pedestrian rail crossings at some rail stations.
Regionwide
City Rail Link (CRL)
We will continue work to transform Auckland's public transport system. With City Rail Link (CRL) construction works mostly complete, we are now focusing on the systems, control, integration, testing and commission phases of the project.

Central Interceptor
Watercare will continue building the Central Interceptor wastewater tunnel to reduce wastewater overflows into central Auckland's waterways.
Sports field capacity development programme
We plan to develop, upgrade and renew sports fields to provide more sports facilities in Auckland.
Urban regeneration
We plan to develop under-used council land to improve social, environmental, economic and cultural outcomes.
'Get Auckland moving'
We plan to develop new travel solutions and improve public transport.
Land acquisitions
We plan to buy land for parks and open spaces to help improve quality of life for Aucklanders, as well as make better use of the parks we already have.
